Reviews of the Music Group's first CD - Isn't He Beautiful - release date Sunday 5th October 2008

From the first chord of Francis' keyboard on the first song "You Are Here" recorded live at Sunday Mass, to the last note of the final offering "I Know A Place" the Music Group take one on a truly spiritual journey.

Elizabeth's haunting clarinet playing, Ivo‘s lovely guitar work, the Group's melodic singing - especially on my favourite “More Love, More Power” - are captured beautifully on this their first CD.

If like me, you believe we are blessed to be presented every Sunday at 10am Mass with such lovely music, if you want to be uplifted for the rest of the week, get yourself a copy.

Lenka, Mick, Zuzana, Kay, Annette, Harriet, Jenny, Lou, Francis, Ivo, Bob, Elizabeth and Jim – well done and thank you very much!

This is an album of devotional worship songs recorded live in St Thomas’s church, Woodford, by the church’s own music group.

The numbers are all well-known, having stood the test of time well. The treatment is essentially simple, with unpretentious voices well in tune, backed by a small band.  Pretty guitar and clarinet riffs and a sensitive piano.

The church acoustic is delicious for the vocals (although more of a problem for the drummer). Everything is reflective, restrained and very peaceful. The evocative ‘Come, Holy Spirit’ (Wimber) and the mesmeric ‘The Lord is my strength and my song’ were perhaps my favourites, but I enjoyed it all and recommend this new take on some lovely old classics.

This compilation brings together 9 relaxing, reflective and soothing tracks.  Having the ambience of the recording in a church this has only accentuated the serenity of the end product.

The arrangements are simple yet elegant and the musicianship is of a high standard.  Each song is complimented with rich vocals while the harmonies remain subtle yet very much part of the unique sound.

I couldn’t draw to a close without mentioning the rich beauty and texture added by the guitars and the countless hours of hard work and dedication to this.

Overall, a wonderful piece of work.
